Japanese Restaurant

SF Bay Area
Interior Design, Restaurant Design

Scope

The design of this full serve Japanese restaurant in the San Francisco Bay Area replaces a small family run lunch and dinner spot in a nearby strip mall. The owners are working with investors to build a new building with offices upstairs and a new home for their very successful restaurant downstairs. Due to delays getting the building built, the restaurant is still unfinished. This is a family run business that has been operating on a shoestring budget…with investors they hope to grow their brand and extend their reach into the larger Bay Area community. This will be a two meal restaurant and sushi bar with private tatami rooms available for special occasions.

My Role

This project was managed closely by the architect with kitchen equipment and design overseen by the chef/owner. I worked with the team to create the overall look and function of the dining room and sushi bar as well as sourcing materials and art to build the unique design. All furnishings, fixtures and lighting were also my responsibility as was the custom design of the bar and host stand. Drawings and details were created and provided to the architect for inclusion in the drawing set.
