Project Description and Scope
The remodel of Leutner Hall at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland included the upstairs servery and dining room which functions on the Bon Appetit signature marketplace ‘all you care to eat’ platform, the downstairs ‘pay as you go’ L3 and ‘The Spot’, a student run lounge and entertainment venue. The project also included the addition of a new 24 hour study area adjacent to the upstairs dining room and a downstairs lounge area for study and relaxation complete with a fireplace. The all new servery includes a circular action station backed by a fresh salad bar, a classics station, pizza and pasta station, dessert station, smoothie/vegan station, drink station and a recycling/trash/compost area that fulfills the Case Western/Bon Appetit ideal. The food stations are designed to provide a backdrop that showcases the fresh, vibrant ingredients that Bon Appetit’s chef uses to prepare the daily changing menu. Large scale graphics from the Case Western archives as well as the produce aisle are used on the walls, sandwiched in glass, and on the millwork and custom canopy to provide texture and further the Bon Appetit/Case Western message.
My Role
This was one of several projects I did for Bon Appetit Management Company. I worked with the University to choose a local architect, then chaired meetings with various student and staff groups to program the space. Once the basic spaceplan and design were created by our staff designer I coordinated the creation of all plans and drew all necessary millwork details. I was also responsible for coordination of kitchen designer, environmental graphic designer and lighting designer. Participated in on-site meetings with contractors, engineers, client representatives as well as Fedele Bauccio and architect. I left EDG prior to completion of this project so was not able to participate in CA, however I did stay available to provide assistance by phone as was needed.
